Founded in 1988, LGLC uses progressive conservation strategies to work with landowners, government officials, conservation partners, volunteers, and supporters aimed at securing the protection of special natural places for future generations to enjoy. Our nature preserves are open to the public for educational, scientific or passive recreational pursuits, such as hiking, birdwatching and photography. To date, more than 1,300 concerned individuals have helped LGLC and its partners protect more than 48,500 feet of shoreline and 12,530 acres of land around Lake George. for more information contactLake George Land Conservancy 4905 Lake Shore Drive P.O. A MEANS WHEREBY PEOPLE MAY PRESERVE, PROTECT AND ENHANCE THE UNIQUE NATURAL AND SCENIC RESOURCES OF THE LAKE AND ITS SURROUNDING COUNTRYSIDE. The
Lake George Park Commission is established to oversee and manage the unique resources
of the Lake George Park especially the lakes superior water
quality. To do so, the Commission is conveyed special authority and responsibility
by New York State. The Commissions programs fill critical gaps to ensure
the lakes protection and encourage cooperation among the many public and
private entities whose common goal is the lakes preservation. The Rogers Rock Gage is a continuous monitoring device operated by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The Commission records and reports the level each business day about 9:00 am. This becomes the daily lake level used and reported by the Commission. 316.06' is 0 datum on the RRG The
lakes target elevation for summertime is 3.5' on the Rogers Rock Gage (RRG).
This converts to an elevation of 319.56' MSL (mean sea level). A daily lake level
reading higher than the rule curve means that water is discharged from the lake.
A lake level lower than the target level requires that the discharge gates are
closed. Since 1980, the FUND for Lake George has financially supported a comprehensive water quality monitoring program on Lake George in partnership with the RPI Darrin Fresh Water Institute. In 2007, the FUND added a stream assessment project through the Lake George Waterkeeper program. Below is a list of more detailed information of the six areas of current scientific research and monitoring on Lake George. for more information The Fund For Lake George P.O. Every year, the LGWC Annual Forum is held to provide all who live, work, recreate, and/or has an interest in the Lake George Watershed, and opportunity to learn about and discuss issues that face Lake George, as well as how to become better stewards of the lake. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the coordinated efforts of the LGWC member organizations to protect and preserve the lake's water quality and surrounding natural resources. In particular the focus topic of this year's Forum will focus on the critical nature of uplands water courses and how their protection directly impacts the water quality of the lake proper. As the LGPC is considering the adoption of stream corridor management regulations, it is critical that all constituents recognize the importance of protecting and preserving stream buffers and riparian water courses that feed into the lake. for more great information please contact: The Lake George Watershed Coalition c/o The Village of Lake George 26 Old Post Road Lake George, NY 12845 518-461-2200
